WELCOME TO GRANITE FIELD - This is a quick introduction to Granite Field which is located right next to the famous Barossa wine region.  This page is to assist pilots with helpful information for you to enjoy your flights within and around the Sedan, area including the Barossa and the Murray River.

HISTORY - This property has been supplying Granite to Australian customers since 1972 with most of the materials heading to the Sydney Opera House. The mine and surrounding rocky outcrops produces excellent house thermals all year round.

WHY FLY AT GRANITE FIELD? - As a pilot we know the importance of a place to fly that won't upset the public with the added assurance of safety. Backpack Airsports is enthusiastic to provide such a place for all pilots to fly and enjoy.  Granite Field is ideal for the Novice pilot with room to learn to the most experienced pilot with endless cross country potential.

ACCESSING GRANITE FIELD - Pilots and their families are welcomed at Granite Field and access to the field by prior arrangement, all other times the Field is closed.  Please contact us via the "Talk To Us" page for the Field details or to enquire about campsites. There is a $10 per pilot per day infrastructure fee that applies. Families are inclusive of pilots infrastructure fee.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU GET TO THE FIELD?   Pilots are encouraged to explore the region and ask for any advice that they may need to ensure an incident free and enjoyable flight.  We also ask feedback on ways we can improve Granite Field for the pilot.

LOCATION - Granite Field is located just north of Sedan and is only a 50min drive from Gawler or 1.5 hours from Adelaide city. Address is available on your enquiry. The Sedan township has an IGA supermarket with all the essentials. There is also The Sedan Hotel with cold beer and great meals.

FACILITIES -    We have a 24x10m shed for training/briefing's with a flushing toilet and kitchenet facilities. Rain water and firewood is available as well we have an online weather station that can be accessed free via the following link - 

GRANITE FIELD DETAILS - The field itself is an impressive 1000m long by 500m wide with views to the Barossa Range and the Murray River Flats even before you take off.  Situated less then half an hour from the Barossa, you can easily make a day of flying in the morning while hitting the wine trail on your way home from Granite Field.  

FLY FIELD OPERATION - Paramotors and Aerochutes can be flown from dawn till dusk from a well mowed 100x200m strip.  We have two tow strips for Paraglider towing and there is a 600m N/S strip for fixed wing aircraft. Altitude Ceiling at Granite Field is 8,500 feet allowing novice to experience pilots the freedom to explore this region.
